Part B Unit 2 ~ Arrange the leadership:

 Overview of my event:

At my art event there are going to be 2 people, Graciella C. (one of my friends, who is the same age as me) She is quite a dynamic, fun person who likes art and has done dyeing before. And also my sister Felicity, will also be participating. They are both chatty people, who enjoy art so it should be good fun. We’re going to be doing a silk painting, and some dyeing.

Plan the practical Issues

Saturday 13th of September Timetable*:

I will try get the majority of the preparation, setting up, and laying things out, done the day before.

9:00 : Check everything is in order, and ready.

10:30 : Arrival

~10:40 : Get started, look at some of my art work. And open up with discussion about Art.

11:00 : Start brainstorming/sketching/discussing about ideas for our Silk Paintings.

~11:15 : Do Gutta, on silk.

~11:30 : Lunch Break – and let the Gutta dry.

~12:45 : Paint our Silk Fans

~1:15 : Chat about what the next activity will contain. What designs, and colours they want.

1:20 : Get fabric ready for dyeing – according to people’s chosen patterns. (rubber bands, tying the fabric, ect).

1:30 : Boil water, and start mixing dyes.

– I will have Graciella mix her dye first.

– We’ll put on the gloves, (and facemasks).

– And mix one colour. Put it in the kettle, and apply to the fabric. Felicity will be standing a distance off to the side whilst we’re doing this.

– Then Felicity will come and mix her dye. (same process)

– We’ll repeat the one person doing it at a time, until we’ve applied all the dyes people want to the fabric.

~ 2:05 : Leave the dye to set (approx 5 mins), go inside for a short break, and to drink water.

~ 2:15 : Rinse fabric in the water, and hang out to dry!

~ 2:30 : Go and take a look at our silk paintings.

~ 2:45 : Review & Get feedback

– I think it will be really good to just have a time of discussing thoughts, and opinions on the day, the art, and my leadership. I hope I’ll be able to record our discussion!

– I will have some discussion questions, will try get written feedback.

~ 3:00 : Closing up

– Check how dry things are.

– Thank yous, and goodbyes.

~4:30 : Clean up, and checking things are in order.

* This will definatley not be 100% accurate time wise, because of many factors. Such as late arrival, longer lunch-break, or something took longer than I anticipated. This is an outline however of the rough amount of time, I would like each activity to take.

 —-

Here are some questions I’m going to ask/discuss with them, when we do it. To help it be a helpful, and meaningful time.  Hopefully I will get some written feedback, and record one, or two of the other discussions we have.

Open-ended Introductory questions for discussion/thought

I’m
going to have basically, a big spider gram on paper, and we’re going to
illustrate, and write done ideas as an “Ice breaker”.

– Favourite(s) types of art?

What things do you appreciate in a piece? i.e. The colour, subject
matter, is it just something beautiful, something to express thoughts,
or both?

– In what ways do you think art expresses ideas/things, that words can’t?

Questions to review on the Art we did – Record :

– What was your favourite art that we did? and what did you like about it? (Silk painting, or Koko Donda).

–  Challenges (doing the art), what was hard?, what things did you not like about the art, and why?

Questions to Review my Leadership – Write down on paper

– Did I help you appreciate this art, in a cheerful and clear manner?

All Feedback welcome! – About my leading, this “Art session”, and I’d
be happy for any thoughts you have about my art work. Cons & Pros.

– Optional: Favourite moment? (can be anything).

Documenting ~

– My Mom will assist by taking photos, when we are doing things. I’ll take pictures of the finished art pieces afetwewards.

– Sound recordings.

– Written feedback.

Risk Assessment

In my art event, there are some potential risks, which I would definitely like to avoid! I want my participants to have fun, but I also want to be a responsible leader and be prepared! Down below I am going to outline potential risks, and the measures I will take to prevent them, and be prepared.

 Silk Painting –

When silk painting, what I would like to avoid is: Spilling the Dye, on ourselves, or our art work! My participants are older, so this shouldn’t really be a problem 🙂

–  I will have a cleaning station nearby, just in case with paper towel, and some cloths.

– I will also try to lay out the table, and supplies in an efficient manner (So that people are not reaching across each other ect..)

Koko Donda (dyeing) –

Koko Donda has more potential risks, mostly due to the dyes being harmful in a couple ways: they can be harmful if they are ingested, or inhaled too much. And to make them hot water is involved, and it will have to be involved. I plan to have a controlled environment, and a clear timetable for when we do it, along with my Mum’s help.

Protective Gear

– 2 pairs of rubber gloves (long length up-to our elbows, for maximum protection.)

– Face-masks: to help ensure that we don’t breathe in too much of the dye’s fumes.

–  (Old clothing, and covered footwear).

– On the ground where we do it, there will be basically a big black plastic sheet.

Measures I will take, to help things run smoothly

– Laying things out before hand.

– Giving participants turns to do things, So I’m aware of what’s happening.

– My mum will be on hand, where the hot water is. And we will both keeping an eye on it, and the dye.

—-

I feel confident now that I’m prepared, if anything goes wrong. I only have 2 participants, so its not an size overwhelming group. The goal is now I’ve planned, that we should be able to have a great time, creating, and doing art!!
