Part C Unit 2 ~ Do the leadership:

Pre-event preparation:

 I

The afternoon before my art event, I did a supply check making sure I had all the necessary equipment (My mum and I, bought all the missing things we needed that week). The art event happened at my house, and there were 2 different locations where we did things. We used a porch table (in a quieter location!) to do the silk painting. And then the place where we did the koko donda, was round the back of my house. I cleaned both places, and laid out the necessary supplies.

 – Material on the left, kettle for pouring the dyes, and rubber bands. And safety equipment on the far right.

Koko Donda supplies:

– Plastic sheet to do it on

– Dyes in the blue bag

On the day:

The table where we did silk painting, and talking.

Silk painting supplies, all laid out.

My art that i showed them is in the basket.

The scheduled time of arrival was 10:30,Graciella ended up arriving a bit late because of bad traffic, but it was ok as I knew we still had plenty of time. Felicity (my sister!) was already there, which was handy 🙂

After a couple of minutes of saying hello, we got straigth into things. I hadn’t told either of them much about what we were going to do. I told them that it was essentially going to be an: art workshop, and we were going to do some Sillk Painting and koko donda. I also told them that through the event, I had the goal of improving my leadership skills.

To start off with i gave them a brief overview of what I’d been up to, with my art awards. I bought out some of my art pieces, comparing, and looking at the different types (Batik, natural dyeing, koko donda, and silk). They were most enthusiastic about the silk painting, but I could tell they were eager to make something themselves, using their own ideas! The next thing we did was some brainstorming/discussing. And I bought out my spider-gram, explaining what I had in mind and I read the quotes out, briefly going over the different ideas. At first they seemed a little unsure, and hesitant of what to do. So i jumped in, wrote a couple things and mentioned a variety of ideas about art, to get the discussion going. After that they seemed more sure, and started writing and talking about ideas of their own. I think it was a fun and better way to start rather than just going straight into the art.

The spider-gram we made! It was really fun to do, and I think they enjoyed it.

They both came up with their own quotes 🙂

Then we moved onto some Silk Painting! ~

For the silk painting I explained to them briefly what the process involved, and then I showed them some of my own paintings to help prompt ideas for their own. I then got some paper out, and we started sketching out ideas to do. Initially I did not give them a prompt, but they seemed rather overwhelmed on what to choose, ranging between a lot of ideas! So then I suggested doing a Nature theme which still has a wide variety for subject matter, and they seemed fine with that.

We did rough sketches on pieces of paper first, I then started sketching my idea on to my fan, Felicity did the same thing. Graciella traced the shape of her fan onto a piece of paper, drew the design and then laid the silk fan on top and traced over it (the silk was thin enough to see through) I thought that was quite a good idea, and I realised that I could learn from them too.
