Project & Leadership Goals:
I think there are multiple qualities that make up a good leader. Such as enthusiasm for their chosen art form, and being able to convey that enthusiasm is a meaningful way. I think they should have patience when teaching as well. They should be well organised and prepared, and have sufficient knowledge/research on their subject that they’re able to answer questions well, and discuss their art form well and confidently. And of course, good communication skills are very important. Such as encouraging, explaining, and judging how people are finding things and how best to help them.
I would like to develop all of these skills, that I mentioned. But I would particularly like to develop my ability; to be organised and prepared, being on schedule!! I would like to be able to communicate well with others, and I would like to grow my confidence in sharing about art (especially for me personally) with others. I also haven’t had much oppoturnity and experience in teaching/doing art formally. I’m excited for the chance to do this.
Newly acquired skills:
I have developed many new skills in my Unit 1. Skills that I hope to transfer to Unit 2, and beyond. I have learnt, and accustomed myself to new art forms. (Batik, dyeing, and Silk Painting). I have become more confident in my ability as an artist in numerous ways (i.e. planning art pieces, constructively criticising myself, forming opinions on artwork, and becoming more confident in my ability to create). As well as planning, and recording using my blog. I have talked, discussed (and specifically interviewed) artists about their art forms. All these different skills are transferable, to art and other things in some way.
Planning my Leadership:
After some consideration, this as an overview is what I would like my Leadership to Involve. . .
- I want to teach a small group of friends, briefly, some of the skills I learnt in Unit 1.
- My aim for them is to go home with, 2 finished art pieces.
- I think it would be good to do: Silk Painting, and Koko Donda. Both Involve different art techniques/styles for variety, and so people who enjoy/have different art styles hopefully get to experience something they enjoy, whilst trying new things at the same time.
- Silk has fun, light feel for me at least. (I’m excited to learn how they find it, and their opinion of it). Silk involves various things in the way of artistic skills. Such as sketching/drawing your design and then tracing over it with Gutta (Of course you don’t have to use Gutta). And then the actual painting part, with the silk dyes. It involves as much, or as little experimentation as you choose! I think it will be a fun exprerience, and challenge (hopefully not in a ‘drag your feet, don’t want to do it’ kind of way) for the friends I have in mind, who to my knowledge have not done anything like this before.
- Koko Donda is different as it doesn’t involve any actual drawing/painting. It has a ‘loose creative style’ feel to it. It has less different techniques to offer than silk painting does, but I think it will be enjoyable and a good to experience art other than in ‘defined’ pictures and drawings.
- These will be rather involved, and busy things to teach. And I need to make sure I am on top of things.
- Both of these will test my skills in communicating, and teaching well. As well as my skills in being well prepared. And organized before the leadership, and during the leadership.
Throughout Unit 1, I’ve been learning about these art forms. The Goal is to now to pass on some of this experience, and what I learned from it. In a fun, and clear way. I want to give my friends a glimpse of the enjoyment I have in art, and hopefully learn from them as well, as we discuss art. I hope to gain in confidence in sharing with, and teaching art to others.
